With the modernization and streamlining of the rice processing mills, the
fortunes of the
Pakistani rice, (which was always popular in the world markets,) have
climbed still higher. Scented ' basmati, rice has its Clientele the world
over but more so in the Middle east, in the Arab world and in the south
Asian countries. East Europe prefers non-scented varieties of Pakistani
rice. Towards the end of the eighties, Pakistan followed the USA and
Thailand as the third largest rice exporting country in the world.
Basmati variety of rice, a long grained no glutinous, aromatic rice is
extremely popular around the world. Pakistan's Basmati Pak-10 is 10%
broken and is packed in double jute/ Hessian bags according to various
weight measures. Consumer packets of one kilo Basmati rice with a maximum
4% broken is also available for direct retail sale.
Another variety of rice exported is Irri-6, which is similar to Basmati,
but is non aromatic. Irri-6 is available in different percentages of
broken rice ranging from 55 to 45% in packing of double jute/ hessian
bags in different weights. State of the art rice processing mills have
made Pakistani rice doubly more desirable in the world markets.
